birth

At the centre of my work as a birth coach and doula is the belief that birth is a physiological, normal function of the pregnant person’s body. We have been taught not to trust our bodies, that our innate ability to give birth is a medical event that must be managed. I believe that with the right mindset, with good quality evidence-based information, and continual emotional support, giving birth can be an empowering and life-changing experience. It's when we own our birth and consciously make informed decisions surrounding our care, we can have full autonomy of our bodies, our births, and our experience. Giving birth brings forth our innate power and wisdom which most certainly carries forward and sets the tone for our postpartum journey ahead.

WHAT THE DATA ON HAVING A DOULA SAYS

  • 41% less likely to give birth with a vacuum extractor or forceps

  • 28% less likely to use any analgesia or anesthesia

  • 33% less likely to be dissatisfied or negatively rate their birth experience
